How credits work
Each invoice Gennai captures uses one credit. Here is what counts, what doesn't, when your credits renew and how to add more.
Gennai counts invoices in credits. Each invoice it captures uses one credit, however it arrives: from a connected inbox, a forwarded email or a file you upload.
What uses a credit
- Each new invoice, receipt or credit note that Gennai captures.
What doesn't use a credit
- Emails and files that aren't invoices.
- Invoices you already have in Gennai. Duplicates are skipped.
- Files Gennai couldn't read.
Archiving or deleting an invoice doesn't give its credit back.
Credits included in each plan

- Monthly plans renew their credits at the start of each billing month.
- Annual plans get the whole year of credits at once and renew them every year.
- The Free plan renews its credits every month, on the day you signed up.
- Plan credits you don't use don't carry over to the next period.
Extra credits
If you need more than your plan includes, buy a credit pack. In Gennai, open Settings › Plan & billing and click Buy credits next to Extra credits. You can also open Plans & credits from the sidebar.

- Extra credits never expire.
- Gennai uses your plan's credits first and your extra credits only when those run out.
- The owner and the members of a workspace can buy credits. Accountants invited to a client's workspace can't.
Where to see your credits
The sidebar shows how many credits you have left, counting your plan's credits and your extra credits together.
When you run out of credits
Gennai stops capturing new invoices until your plan's credits renew or you add extra credits. The invoices you already have stay in Gennai.
Once you have credits again, Gennai carries on capturing new invoices. To bring in invoices that arrived in your inboxes while you had no credits, use Find past invoices. Forward again any invoice you sent to your Gennai address while you had no credits.
